All Sin

Mike Focht 2/27/2026

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:7

This is a sweet doctrine for all who genuinely desire close personal fellowship with their Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Do you want to walk with God but feel like there is distance between you? Do you feel like you would love to approach God’s holy ground but are too defiled with sin? Do you wish to be more in love with God but know all too well that your heart loves sin?

The good news is that God has made a way for sinners to walk in fellowship with Him. The way is simple and has not changed since John the Apostle wrote these words.

First, we must walk in the light as He is in the light. Light dispels darkness and shows things as they truly are. Light allows us to see clearly. Light makes reality evident. So, too, we must allow the light of God to shine on us if we are to have fellowship with Him. We must allow God’s light to dispel the darkness that covers sin. We must allow God’s light to remove the darkness that deceives us from seeing just how deep, wretched, and vile our sins are. We must agree with God that our sin is as ugly as His light reveals it to be.

If we seek to hide our sin, shade our sin, cover our sin, or call our sin something other than God does, we are simply walking in darkness. Relating to our sin outside of God’s truth is walking in darkness. If we continue in darkness, our fellowship with God will be hindered because we will not live in the reality of our sin as God sees it. We are simply lying and refusing to practice the truth.

But John tells sinful hearts who have their wickedness manifest in the light of God, there is still a place of fellowship. All fellowship is possible because the blood of Jesus Christ can cleanse us from any and every sin the light of God reveals. Even though we are imperfect, we can fellowship with God because His blood has made us clean. Clean from all sin! Faith must grasp the scope of those remarkable words. All sin!

You and I are free to follow God and fellowship with Him because Jesus Christ's blood cleanses us daily. God the Father has made a way for imperfect sinners like you and me to have fellowship with Him through the light of the Holy Spirit and the blood of Jesus Christ. Provision is made for imperfection. Faith in God’s provision will result in true fellowship. Whatever sin God makes manifest through His light, bring it quickly to the cross and allow Him to wash it away. When Christ makes you clean you are clean indeed!
